Match Play Rules

The KMGC Match Play competitions are open to full (regular) KMGC members only. The overall winner gets prize money and a trophy!

The Match Play events are 18 hole single elimination Net Match Play competitions. Pairings for the President’s Cup and team pairings for the Partner’s Cup are determined randomly. Strokes are given as the difference in course handicaps of the competitors off the low handicap player i.e. With two players having course handicaps of 5 & 20 they will play with the 5 handicap player at scratch and the 20 receiving 15 handicap strokes, one stroke per hole on the 15 hardest handicap holes identified on the scorecard.

Players may choose to play from different tees, as long as the individual player handicaps are based on the tee played. Any course can be played as long as it is mutually agreed upon, with the default course being Knollwood.

The deadlines for each match are generally set to a club tournament so those who have trouble arranging a match can use the tournament as a final option. Match deadlines are final with no exceptions.  Matches can (and should) be played prior to the deadline. If a match has not been played, players will be paired at the home tournament.  If a player (President’s Cup) or team (Partner’s Cup) does not participate in that tournament, he/they will be eliminated.  If both players/teams are not present, they will both be disqualified.

Tie Breakers - Choose a tie breaker before the start of your match. It can be anything from an entire new match, playoff holes, least amount of putts, coin flip or whatever you can think of. If you play your match at a deadline tournament, you can choose to have a random hole card-off officiated by any board member after the round (card-off compares holes starting at the randomly chosen hole until one player or team wins the hole and thus the match).
